What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural and frequently experienced state in which the conscious mind takes a little break and the subconscious mind is at the forefront. Hypnosis is experienced in varying degrees by all people multiple times each day. For instance, anytime an individual is relaxed while being also extremely focused, they are in a light state of hypnosis. This is commonly experienced by anyone who has ever been engrossed in reading a book (light hypnosis), has ever daydreamed (light hypnosis) or has ever missed an exit while driving (commonly known as “Highway Hypnosis”).

In therapeutic Hypnosis the individual is guided into a deep state of physical and mental relaxation through the hypnotist’s descriptive, relaxing and comforting words. This deep relaxation paves the way for the individual’s subconscious mind to become acutely aware of and intently focused upon the hypnotist’s voice and the positive suggestions which are being offered. These positive suggestions are then embraced and accepted by the subconscious mind. When positive suggestions are accepted by the subconscious mind then the conscious mind can act upon the suggestions. In this way, the preferred thoughts, feelings and behaviors of the individual are achieved.

Is Hypnosis mind control?

Absolutely not! In fact the only one “controlling” the mind of a person in hypnosis is the person themselves. The individual in hypnosis is totally aware of the fact that they are in hypnosis, they have complete control over the entire process and can stop the relaxation and the hypnosis at any time. However, they do not wish to stop the process of hypnosis because they are very relaxed and comfortable and the positive suggestions being offered by the hypnotist represent what the individual is trying to achieve through the hypnosis. These suggestions have been decided on by the individual and the hypnotist together in consultation prior to the hypnosis session.

Can anyone be Hypnotized?

Yes. Anyone who wants to be hypnotized can be. Thus, anyone
